CAMPAIGN SUMMARY

My name is Ema Johnson and I am currently a senior at White Bear Lake Area High School in Minnesota. I started sailing two years ago when I did a research paper on my great great grandpa, John O. Johnson, who invented the inland scows. I was inspired by his work in the sailing industry and his skills as a sailor, and decided that I wanted to be like him. Currently my skipper and I sail for the White Bear Lake High School Sailing Team, and we plan on practicing on the Club 420 this summer. Neither of us have much experience on the spin and trap, but our goal is to gain experience and aim for first place.

This Saturday I attended Conference Regatta #3 at Lake Calhoun. Winds were on and off, very shifty, but we were able to win by 13 points. Our B-team, Thor and Claire, scored a 1st in every race! Kate and I sailed A-Division, and started out with a 3rd, but won every race afterwards. We had a lot of fun, and hope to improve our sailing skills. Today I was invited to sail with Will Crary on his C420, and he taught me all of the basics. I am already very excited for summer sailing with Kate. :)
