My name is Lola Bushnell. I am 15 years old and I have been sailing in the San Francisco Bay for 5 years. I started in Optis at the Saint Francis Yacht Club and fell in love with the sport. I continued sailing with the San Francisco Yacht Club Opti team where I improved greatly. With the San Francisco Yacht club, I went twice to Team Trials and once to Nationals in the optimist.
Last year, I started sailing CFJs with the San Francisco Waldorf High School team, and Lasers at the Saint Francis. My first year of Laser sailing in 2010 was not too serious, but this summer (2011) I lucked out when 3 major regattas were held in my home, the San Francisco Bay: the 4.7 Worlds; the 4.7 North Americans and the Leiter Cup. I also traveled to LA for the US Nationals in radials.
After successfully sailing in these competitive regattas, I know sailing at this level is what I want to do, but I also know this lifestyle comes with a big price tag.
At the 4.7 North Americans, I was the top girl, qualifying me for the 2012 World Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Additionally, I would like to go to the Leiter Cup, the North Americans, Midwinters West, the PCCs, CORK, the youth radial worlds in Brisbane Australia and a few others as opportunities arise. I am also hoping to qualify for the ISAF youth worlds in Ireland.
Through these experiences I am working to improve my sailing skills to achieve my dreams, but I cannot afford the cost on my own. I am grateful for every donation.
If you would like to make a donation, go to the link "belvedere cove foundation" and make a donation in my name.
