Hobie 16

Hobie 16

The Hobie Cat in and of itself is a brand name. There are approximately eleven different Hobie Cat catamaran classes from which one can choose. The Hobie 16, designed by Hobie Alter, has been in production since 1970. It is often used as a youth boat (U.S. Multihull National Championship, the Arthur J. Stevens Trophy), but adults race them as well. One of it's outstanding features is that the hulls are asymmetrical, rendering daggerboards unnecessary. This feature coupled with kick-up rudders makes launching and landing easy. The Hobie 16 has a double trapeze system for crew and skipper. It is also a one-design class. Specifications: Length 16' 7' Beam 7' 11' Draft 10' Minimum Class Weight 320 lbs. Mast Length 26'6' Sail Area 218 sq. ft. Maximum Load 800 lbs.
