Melges 24

Melges 24

A high-performance sportboat, the Melges 24 was introduced in 1993. It is a planing keelboat that is raced with a minimum of 3, but usually four people. The mast, rudder, bowsprit and vertical keel fin are all made of carbon fiber. The asymmetrical spinnaker is 670 sq ft and it "lifts and pulls the boat forward on a downwind sprint". (As printed on www.Melges24.com) It has a retractable keel so launching is easy as is trailering. The class is professionally run and is well organized. There are over 600 boats raced around the world, and half of that fleet exists in the U.S. Designer Reichel/Pugh Hull Material GRP Year Designed 1992 Hull Length 7.31 m Beam Length 2.499 m Draught Length 1.52 m Mainsail Area 21.0 m2 Headsail Area 12.0 m2 Spinnaker Area 55.9 m2 Boat Weight 809 kg
