Farr 40

Farr 40

The Farr 40 is a very competitive one-design keel boat class. It was named Sailing World's 'Boat of the year' in 1998. It was designed by Farr Yacht Design and built by U.S Watercraft (and McConaghy Boats in Australia). The class rules limit the number of pros allowed onboard to four, and the owners must drive (or nominate another amatuer to drive). As a way to control costs, the class uses the sail "button" system to control how many sails are bought each year. The rig is made of carbon fiber and is runner-less. A Farr 40 costs approximately $380,200 not including sails and electronics).
