CAMPAIGN SUMMARY
I am an Inland Lakes Scow sailor who competed in Collegiate Sailing, earning All-American status twice while at St. Mary's College of MD. I currently manage the Geneva Lake Sailing School, in WI, where I coach Opti's, X's and run the High School Sailing Program. My experience on the Olympic Circuit includes some 49er sailing in the late 90's, and a campaign for the 2004 Games on an IMCO. I finished 3rd in those trials.
Recently I've been competing in the E and A Scow classes and have finished first in two E-Scow invitationals in 05' and 07' as well as winning the Blue Chip in 08'. In the A Class, I have served as tactician for several successful programs dating back to 2002. This summer I was a last minute fill in as tactitian on board Tom Freytag's "Mad Cap" at the 2010 Nationals which we won. My E-Team sold our boat this summer and now I'm looking to get into the 49er class to compete for a spot in the 2012 games with my former student, now colleague and fellow St. Mary's Alum, Mike Kuschner.
We plan to find a solid boat, and sail it out of the Lake Geneva Yacht Club, which is the home of the GLSS, where we both work. The lake stays open into January so we are looking forward to some great, possibly cold sailing through the fall of 2010 as we prep to compete in Miami this coming winter.
The focus of our campaign will be varied as we look for corporate sponsorship that will provide exposure to businesses providing environmentally sustainable solutions to our economy while encouraging the next generation to follow their dreams of competition in our sport.

Canadian Nationals- August 21-25

After a busy and successful summer at the GLSS and the Big Inland of 2010 on Geneva,we hit the road. We chartered a 49er from Canadian Olympian Gordon Cook, and were welcomed to the class graciously by the Canadian Olympic Team.
With a total of 3 hours of practice time in the 49er, we started our first event with great conditions at 10-15 knots from the Southeast. The 49er is a boat that is fully powered up and planning at 8 knots, therefore our first race day proved to be a handful with 4 capsizes and 1 breakdown. However going into our second day we were placed 10th of 20 overall. On day three we were faced with 15-25 knots and a heavy sea-state. As coaches, it was time to practice what we preach by continuing to stay in the game in tough conditions. Only eight out of the 20 competitors were able to complete races that day. Ignoring some friendly warnings, we finished four out of the five races, which moved us into the top American spot in the results. The next day our goal was to break into the top five in some races, which we did right away with a close second place finish in race 11.
In the last two days of the event we were fighting to stay ahead of the top Mexican team. Going in the Medal Race, which is the final race and includes only the top 10 boats we were tied for sixth with this team. The Finale’ proved to be an exciting one with 6 boats all finishing within a boat length of each other and we were able to finish just ahead of the Mexicans having passed them with a beautiful jibe set at the windward mark to take 6th place in the race and overall for the regatta.
