2011 Skippers Plan Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta
The weather for the first regatta of the season was not hospitable. There was some decent wind but no visibility and vice versa. There were eight C&C 99's along with a number of Beneteau 36.7's, J/105's, and Etchells, milling around the start area. Eventually, the Race Committee called the day early, about ten minutes before the fog lifted and the wind came up.
On Sunday, visibility was better and the winds in the vicinity of eight knots. The winds were shifty all day. The Race Committee wasted no time in setting a course and sending us off. The Race Committee did an excellent job adjusting the course to accommodate the shifting winds and got off three races.
On the weekend, we finished seventh but we had our moments of glory; second at the bottom mark in the first race, rolling Winston Churchill upwind in the second race. The crew work improved over the day, given these were our first serious races of the season. Thanks to Jay, Carol-Ann, Henry, Nick, and Jason.
Our next regatta is the Royal Canadian Yacht Club Open this weekend. There could be as many as ten C&C 99's competing at this event
