As we get older and acquire some discretionary income, it’s natural to look for ways to help younger sailors have rewarding experiences that they otherwise could not afford. The U.S. government provides no direct financial support to sailors. That’s why 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations (like the Southport Sailing Foundation) are so important – they provide a means for individuals to make tax-deductible contributions to help aspiring U.S. sailors.
These contributions can be made directly to an organization such as the Southport Sailing Foundation (SSF).

We are committed to providing the most effective help possible with the funds we have. The goal of the CleverPig website is to help the maximum number of sailors in the most cost-efficient and timely way. We believe in the adage that it is better to teach sailors to ‘fish,’ rather than just ‘giving them a fish.’ We hope that the web site will help educate and empower U.S. sailors to achieve great things.
The Southport Sailing Foundation also gives grants to individuals and teams who are planning to race at the regional, national and international level, as well as to organizations, such as the Storm Trysail Club which sponsors safety-at-sea seminars for young sailors.
Contributions to fund the web site, grants and other projects are desperately needed and tremendously appreciated. We promise to use your donation in a way that is efficient and has the biggest impact possible in helping American sailors who are trying to take the next step in their sailing careers. Thank you.
