My name is Stefan Kuehn and I have been sailing since before I can even remember. My father had gotten my brother and I into sailing at a very young age. We grew up learning how to sail on the Little Peconic Bay at our local sailing club, Old Cove Yacht Club. I sailed my little blue Optimist all over. After several years of learning the basics I wanted to learn more and race in bigger events than local invitationals. One weekend at the West Hampton Fall Series we met the Potts' Family. They asked us if we wanted to join there team, GUST. This was my first experience with international coaching and I was hooked. After our time with GUST I moved to another team, LISOT (Long Island Sound Optimist Training). LISOT was the greatest thing that had ever happened to me, it was a family of sailors and families who wanted to learn more than the average sailor that comes from a small yacht club with teenage instruction. Because of sailors aging or sizing out of the Optimist there were a couple of branches that were added later on. There was a 420 branch and there was a Laser branch. Personally I loved the Laser and that's what I chose to sail after the Optimist. I still compete and train internationally and I hope to be at the top of the rankings in the future and be on the podium at the 2020 Olympic Games. My short term goal is to be accepted to the College of Charleston and tryout for the varsity sailing team, wish me luck!
