We started sailing a C420 together in June 2008. Ian sailed optis for 5 years before that, and did a lot of racing. In 2007, Ian received the DRYA season award for 2nd place in opti red. Emily had previously sailed a C420 for 1 year and optis for 2 years, but had limited racing experience.

We learned a lot during the summer of 2008, and had a lot of fun. As the summer went on, we had more and more success and realized that we made a pretty good team. In July 2008, we went to our first travel regatta at Lake Cowan, OH, for the Bemis Area E semifinals. In August 2008, we traveled to Kingston, Ontario, for the CORK regatta. Since then, we traveled to Miami for the Orange Bowl regatta and to Jensen Beach, FL for the C420 Advanced Racing Clinic and again for the C420 Midwinter Championship. In the spring of 2009, we plan on trying high school sailing.

We plan to sail as a team throughout our high school years, and these are some of our goals:
* go to US Youth Champs more than once
* win a major youth sailing event
* sail in 5 or more I420 regattas
* represent Area E in the Bemis finals more than once
* WIN!!!

Ian and I went to 420 midwinter on 14th through the 16th of February. The first day the wind was very light and it shifted a lot. We only got off two races. On the first race we got a 14th place, and on the second race we finished 5th but we got an OCS. On the second day it was about the same conditions (almost no wind and shifty), but we did not do as well. We had three races, in the first we got a 24th, in the second we got a 24th, and in the last race we got a 31st. Then on the last day it was blowing about 18 knots to gusts of 25. We had a little bit of trouble holding down the boat but the day was fun. We flew!! We got a 19th, a 20th, a 21st, and a Z flag. It was a fun regatta and it was a nice break from the cold at home!
